Ceftaroline approval — Ceftaroline is a broad-spectrum cephalosporin that has bactericidal activity against gram-positive bacteria, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), and Streptococcus pneumoniae, as well as some gram-negative bacteria. Ceftaroline has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of skin and soft tissue infections (SSTIs), including those caused by MRSA, and for community-acquired pneumonia . It is the first FDA-approved cephalosporin with activity against MRSA.
